You wouldn't want to say something about yourself and then have a big awkward gap in the converstation. So yeah, try to get her involved in the conversation. Act like you appreciatte what she has to say and MEAN IT. if she's really REALLY quiet and you don't even think she'd be able to answer your question... tell her a cute joke or smile at her when you sit down. be friendly.
